After being threatened by Crockett (Don Johnson) and Tubbs (Phillip Michael Thomas), Bob Rickert (Lenny Von Dohlen), reveals that he is aiding his former classmates by storing and transporting drugs between destinations.
Crockett and Tubbs find nothing in the intelligence files on Rickert. On the other hand, Sally Alverado (Michael Madsen), a man they recently met in a car chase, has multiple investigations and attempted murder charges, but he later makes bond. Crockett states Rickert is coming apart at the seams because his life is in danger.
A superior tells Crockett that he's been barraged with calls all day by Alverado's law counsel. Crockett is warned he will face jail time if he does not cooperate, but he would rather be incarcerated than risk an informant's safety.
Crockett is released from jail, but his spirits are low. Tubbs tells his partner that Rickert turned himself in. Because of this, Alverado was able to walk away. Crockett is furious that he spent more time in jail than Alverado.
Tubbs and Crockett learn that Alverado plans to have someone killed, and to their horror, they discover it is a fellow vice agent, Gina (Saundra Santiago).
Alverado learns that Gina is working undercover and enacts revenge before Crockett and Tubbs can intervene.
