Scientist Jason Brassell (Lenny Von Dohlen) and his business partner Ted Whitcomb (Charley Lang) conduct an illegal cloning experiment hoping to create a line of inhumanly fast synthetic workers. When their first creation dies, they conclude that they need a man whose body can withstand the stress. They focus their attention on The Flash.
At Star Labs, Dr. Tina McGee (Amanda Peys) is concerned about her friend and patient, Barry Allen (John Wesley Shipp). His work as his alter ego, The Flash, is taking a toil on his health. As Barry speaks to Tina, he receives notice that the train station has received a bomb threat. He rushes away but finds that it's a false alarm. While there, he is confused to see a toy robot approach. It extends a small blade that wounds him. Barry takes the robot with him but doesn't realize that its purpose was fulfilled in spilling his blood, which Jason promptly collects from the train station floor.
Jason is pleased by the speed at which their newest subject can learn and envisions creating a race of warriors that will make him a millionaire. Ted disagrees with Jason's plan and reminds him their investors won't approve. Jason has already decided they'll pretend the experiment was a failure but continue in secret.
The scientists' creation, which they've named Pollox, briefly escapes and is seen by Barry and Tina at a playground before being apprehended by Jason and returned to the lab.
Ted believes Pollox is dangerous and should be destroyed. Jason says he'll sell him to the highest bidder and use the money to make thousands more. Jason says if Ted doesn't want to be a part of this, there's the door. Otherwise, don't interfere!
When Pollox asks where he came from, he is met with cruelty from Jason. Pollox becomes enraged and accidentally kills Ted. Jason shields himself, expecting an attack, but Pollox uses the moment to escape.
Barry visits the lab where Pollox was born, scaring Jason, who believes Pollox has returned. When he learns Barry is with the police, Jason tells him the lab is out of business. His partner's death leaves him without financing. Barry is suspicious, and Jason can sense it. After Brassell departs, Barry notices a bag of shredded documents, which he takes home.
When Pollox visits Tina, she calls Barry, who warns her to be careful. He's read the shredded documents, and Pollox poses a threat.
Tina feels sorry for Pollox and hopes that some of Barry's moral compass resides within him. Tina's instincts ring true as the episode draws to a close.
