In this play-like film, Annie (Cybill Shepherd) plans a special dinner party revolving around a guest of honor, Gordon (Lenny Von Dohlen). Annie is an artist, a dreamer, and a romantic, and she hopes to rekindle a relationship with her former lover. She wants everything to be perfect. As she and her friend Martin (David Burtka) prepare for the dinner party, she slowly begins to receive cancellation notices from her friends, which is only the beginning of her troubles. 

Gordon is a character who is mentioned throughout the film, but, aside from a photo, remains absent until nearly the end. A ghost from Annie's past that seemingly has haunted her for most of her life.
